My
Wife, Myself And The Pearl Necklace With a Red Thread
Abu
Muzhaffar, a grandson of Ibn Jauzi said : Ibn Aqil Rahimahullah told ( a short
story) about himself, And said :
I
once set out to perform Hajj. In the blessed lands, Suddenly I found a pearl
necklace strung on a red thread. Close by, I heard an old blind Sheikh
announcing that he was looking for that necklace, even he would give a reward
of a hundred dinars (Arab’s currency) for the person who returned it to the
poor Sheikh.I returned it to him.
He
requested me, “Take this dinars (the reward)”, but I refused.
I
then left for Syria and visited Baitul Maqdis. Enroute to Baghdad, I stopped at
the Masjid in the city, Halab (Aleppo, Syiria), where I took refuge in a Masjid
due to cold and hunger. The jamaah (the people who comes to pray congregation)
of the Masjid (mosque) came up to me, so I lead their prayer. Then I had a meal
from them.
It
was the first of Ramadan, and they said to me :
"Our
Imam has passed away and we would like you to lead us in prayer for the
remainder of the month." I agreed.
After
a time, they mentioned to me that their previous Imam had a daughter of
marriageable age. They suggested that I marry her and I agreed. After a year,
she gave birth to our son, but fell critically ill immediately thereafter (after
nifas/childbirth).
One
day, I looked at the necklace she was wearing-it was the very same necklace
strung with a red thread I had found many years ago.
I
said to her, "This necklace has a story of its own," and I related
the incident between me and the Sheikh to her.
Tears
filled her eyes and she asked, "You… are truly the man who found it ? I
swear to God . My father would cry and make du'a' : 'O Allah, grant my daughter
a husband like the man who returned this necklace to me.' Trully, Allah has accepted
his du'a'." Soon thereafter, she passed away.
This beautiful and bizarre story is included in Mirâtu
az-Zaman page. 8 / 52-53. I quoted from Siyar A'lâmin Nubalâ ': 14 / 332-333 (published
Dârulhadïts-Cairo, 1427-H), written by Adz-Dzahabi rahimahullah (Died: 748-H).
